This morning when I was in prayer this question came to my mind. Why NOT believe? As you all know, I not only believe in God, but I KNOW there is a God! He’s done too many things to/for/through me for me not to believe in him. I started to think about those who don’t believe though. It hurts me to the core to think someone couldn’t believe in the awesome, wonderful, majestic God of creation (Jesus Christ).
I started to think about the things that we DO believe. Here is a short list:
1) We believe that when we set up direct deposit our money will appear in our account by midnight on payday.
2) We believe that when we put the key in the ignition and turn it forward that our car will start.
3) We believe that when we put a stamp on a letter that it will get to the required destination within 3-5 business days.
4) We believe that when we go to Burger King we can have it our way (whopper junior with cheese, no onion, cut in half).
5) We believe that making purchases over the internet is safe.
6) We believe that by studying you will obtain good grades (clearly that theory has failed many times in my life!)
7) We believe the rainbow (flag) represents gay pride (…it doesn’t. See scripture reference below)
Genesis 9: 13-16 “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
8) We believe by purchasing a $1 lottery ticket that we will win a million.
I don’t know about you, but if I can have faith in the lottery (actually, I don’t! LOL), surely I can have faith in the God who owns the entire universe! If we can believe the short list above (and more), why NOT believe:
1) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1)
2) For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)
3) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord…(Philippians 2: 10-11)
4) …God is love. (I John 4:8)
5) God is faithful…(1 Corinthians 1:9)
6) God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…(1 Corinthians 14:33)
7) …God is one (Galatians 3:20)
8) …God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:29)
Why NOT believe?
